Last week, I had this argument with a friend about the future of Java and some of the things he raised seem pretty interesting to me. I may be entirely wrong but here are my thoughts about where java might be headed
- Java was originally built for embedded systems and I think it would find its way back there. With IoT gaining so much attention in the past few years and with java playing out well on all devices, it is likely going to be a match made in heaven.
Java might move away from our desktops and Node js platforms will take over. nwjs.io is already doing this
for the sake of legacy codes, early enterprise solutions would likely continue using java
Java is completely on its way out of web solutions
Java on android? yes it will likely remain the core of android OS but I think majority of android apps (and most mobile apps) would be developed with Javascript. ionics and other javascript based platforms are already doing this.
NB: My aim is to evoke an insighful discussion and nothing more. I am not a java developer or anything close. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can educate us on it.
