Has anyone noticed how the retail sector is in dire need of innovation? Yet, and perhaps, the most difficult to disrupt? From Walmart in the US, to Tesco in the UK, and finally in Nigeria when I visited last week and found my way to Shoprite. Same old problem - delays in customer checkout at retail stores.
To solve this problem, Tesco in the UK tried a hand-held PDA (similar to the POS used by retailers), but clunky it was for customers, ineffective and sometimes difficult to operate. And oh, you still end up at the queue anyways.
So I decided to try an experiment with Buyt, a mobile app for in-store retail checkout. Before you buy it, Buyt by scanning every product barcode selected in-store, and click pay to complete purchase, then make payment via debit/credit card that was pre-loaded on the app during registration, an e-receipt is then generated automatically, retailer receives payment by API, mobile payment solution, NFC or QR code.
Here is a low-fi prototype of Buyt https://projects.invisionapp.com/m/share/BE4W8PLYC#/90116033 Simply click "preview in browser" and "sign in with phone number" to navigate through the functionality, have a play around and share your feedback.
Currently in talks with a Nigerian bank, a mobile payment solutions company, and retailers for roll-out. Fingers crossed.
Go ahead, try it and let me know what you think.
Thank you,
