Ev Williams just announced Medium's next step in sealing its position as the ultimate publishing platform of the 21st century (or rather for hipsters) https://medium.com/the-story/taking-medium-to-the-next-level-cb7f223fad86

In summary, Medium now offers custom domain support for all (free hosting), a publishing API with integration to Wordpress and others, new editing features and major upgrades across all its mobile apps and yeah, a new logo (Type nerds: The same way Google tweaked Futura font is the same way Medium tweaked Stark font)

In my opinion, Facebook's recent 'threats' to up their ante in the publishing game with a revamped Notes feature must have sent shrills down the entire Medium backbone. Besides having the numbers, Facebook has proved that long form content, regardless of the not-so-beautiful formatting, can be consumed and widely shared on the social network. Now this is not only wanting to eat Medium's lunch but an attempt to attempt emasculate Medium itself.

So they did what any cornered man (and woman, abi?) would do. Fight. Of course, these releases have been works in the offing, it's only that the timing was cut short, a little too early. Doesn't look bad anyway.

I'll conclude with words from Charles Bukowski, as the social networking giants fight for our eyeballs, it's good to know whether we're being walled in or walled out.
