Here's bit of uplifting news in the Wall Street Journal to brighten up your day.

Nigerians win the World Scrabble Competiton

My favorite quote from the article:

Nicknamed “The Cat in the Hat” for his taste in fedoras, Mr. Jighere, 33 years old, is Nigeria’s Rachmaninoff of rack management

Warri no dey carry last indeed.

For me, beyond the patriotic fervour, and the optimism that this news will in a little way, help Nigeria redeem its much maligned global image, the most important takeaway here is the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) courses to our future.

We shouldn't wait for the Government. We should encourage and make it easier for everybody i.e siblings, employees, colleagues, children, etc to reembrace STEM. For many, the foundation was all wrong. Thankfully, Khan Academy, open MIT courses, and a plethora of other tools on the Internet have made it easier.
